I always manage to forget my reusable bags at home when [ex] Husband takes me grocery shopping, and that’s when I do the major grocery shopping, so I end up with this growing pile of plastic grocery bags. And then I forget to take them back to the store for recycling.
But that’s okay, because I do my own sort of recycling with plastic grocery bags! Today, I’ll show you how! You just need to know how to crochet a basic chain and single crochet stitch, and have some scissors and a size K crochet hook. Oh, and a crapload of plastic grocery bags!
So here’s a brief video of how to make the plarn (plastic yarn) out of plastic grocery bags!
And here’s some still photos of the process:
And to give you an idea of what you can do with Plarn:
In the next few days, I’ll post a pattern for a reusable bag for you to use up all that Plarn that I just know you’re making!

At my local walmart, they actually have a couple of huge bins in the front for bag recycling. I asked, and they said I could have as many as I liked to use for crocheting! I brought home three big bags full of bags, lol. I wrote a post on my blog about plarn as well, and had so much fun with it! Here’s a link to my own post:

Hi! I love the end product you have of the bag made with plarn. Is there anywhere I can go on the net to learn how to “put it all together”? I don’t know how to knit or crochet, so I’d need steps to get there.
Please help! I enjoyed the first tutorial, and would love to make use of my bags!!

You could start here! http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_cr.php3 They’ve got some great instructions. I’d practice with yarn before working with plastic, but they are worked much the same!
